Parallax
A nonfiction book club · One book, many viewpoints · Online since 2016
36 books and 2 topic nights so far. Pick one up.
About the club
A private nonfiction book club for people who are curious, eager to learn, self-disciplined, and modest.
About once a month we meet to talk through our current book and whatever else we have been reading. We want people from different backgrounds to learn from, connect with, and share with each other.
The name is the method. Parallax is the shift you see when you look at one thing from two positions, and it is how you perceive depth. A book read alone is flat. Read with people who stand somewhere else, it has depth.

The library
Everything we have read.
Nothing under that subject yet.
On the table now
Philosophy and religion, read with an open mind, curiosity, and respect for differing perspectives.
Since At the Existentialist Café, the club has been reading classic and modern philosophy and religious texts, alongside the history, science, and biography we have always read.
Members propose and vote on what comes next, and we look for books that argue from more than one side. When we read Bill Gates on climate, we paired him with Steven Koonin.
Events
About once a month, online, usually on a Tuesday evening.

We are looking for people who
- Want to share their passion for a subject through a book
- Want a good book recommended by someone with real expertise and experience
- Enjoy hearing a range of opinions from people with different backgrounds
How it works
- We meet online, usually on a Tuesday evening, so you can join from anywhere
- One nonfiction book per meeting, chosen by member vote. Long books get extra sessions
- We want members to know each other, so a complete profile is required
